Virgin
Atlantic has opened its latest executive lounge at New York JFK.
The Clubhouse lounge has the usual Virgin features like an extensive
buffet and cocktail bar and there is plenty to keep passengers
entertained. A 42-inch plasma screen displays news broadcasts and
movies, and there are four Sony Playstations to wile away the time.
Further entertainment comes from the people and plane-watching
opportunities afforded by a floor-to-ceiling glass wall.
The lounge does not have a salon, so passengers flying Upper Class
should make the most of the massage and beauty services inflight and at
Heathrow and Gatwick.
There’s no excuse for not touching base with the office – business
travellers with wi-fi enabled laptops can connect to the internet from
the lounge and those without a computer can use the desktop i-Macs
provided.
Quirky design features even extend to the bathrooms. The bright red
pairs of lips mounted on the wall in the gents loos are not art, but in
fact urinals.
The lounge is located opposite the Virgin check-in desks in JFK’s
recently opened Terminal Four. Virgin has operated all of its flights
from this terminal since moving from Terminal One in February.
Extra flights are being laid on for the Summer. From June 1 Virgin will
operate three more services per week to Washington and Boston on top of
the daily flights. New York Newark will also get an extra flight per
week from June 1 taking the service to daily. The Summer schedule runs
until October 30.
