Scotland is getting better connected to domestic and European hubs
following a raft of route announcements from two low cost carriers.
Flybe launched flights from Edinburgh to Belfast on March 1 and will
also fly to Belfast from Glasgow from March 28. From 28 March the
airline will also fly from both Glasgow and Edinburgh to Exeter in the
south west.
A flight between Glasgow and Flybe’s hub in Southampton will supplement
the current Southampton service from Edinburgh. It launches on March 28.
The additional routes will see Flybe more than double the number of
flights it operates per week to 364. Managing director, Jim French says
the policy of Flybe contradicts that of British Airways, which he says
is “constantly cutting routes and retrenching back to Heathrow”. He said
Scottish passengers should expect more route announcements in the near
future. Go to www.flybe.com.
Rival low cost carrier, Duo, which markets itself as service for
business travellers, is also expanding its Scottish services. Duo will
offer flights from Edinburgh to Munich and Nice from March 28. The
carrier has shelved plans to launch flights from Edinburgh via
Birmingham to Cologne, Lyon and Stuttgart from the same date. Duo
operates 50-seater jets and passengers get complementary food and drink.
